Stopping for refreshment has been part of a trip to Loschwitz since the nineteenth century. When the village became an excursion destination, small wine taverns and inns opened, and the bridge and hill railways brought the large excursion restaurants. This page lists the places whose address and history can be documented. Opening hours are deliberately left out because they change. Please check with the business before you go.

The architect Paul Winkler built the house in 1894/95 for his brother, the master baker Robert Emil Winkler, who was purveyor to the Saxon royal court. As Kaffee Winkler it quickly became popular. In 1996 Michael Wippler took over the lease and reopened it as Kaffee Wippler. The spelling "Kaffee" rather than "Café" recalls that origin.
The house is known for its Dresden Eierschecke, a Saxon custard cake. Dresden Magazin calls it probably the best in the city. The family bakery has its main shop in Söbrigen near Pillnitz.
Friedrich-Wieck-Straße runs parallel to the Elbe through the old village core. The city of Dresden restored the houses here as part of the Loschwitz redevelopment area, and many ground floors now hold cafés and small shops.
Inn with a beer garden right on the Elbe, in business since 1877. More about its history is on the businesses page.
The wine café is tucked away near Körnerplatz, level with the Blaues Wunder bridge. It is named after Clara Schumann, daughter of Friedrich Wieck, after whom the street is also named. The building is one of the restored houses of the village core; the café moved into the ground floor after the restoration.
The Luisenhof stands opposite the upper station of the funicular and is called Dresden's balcony because of its view. Built to plans by Richard Friedrich Reuter, it opened on 25 September 1895, at the same time as the funicular. It was named after the then Crown Princess Luise of Tuscany.
In the 1920s and 1930s it was a fashionable meeting place. A fire in September 1956 closed it until April 1957, and from 1975 to 1990 it belonged to the state catering organisation. After restoration it reopened in 1999, and again in spring 2018 after another closure.
Inn in the quarter of the same name above the suspension railway. Schöne Aussicht is also the starting point of the Königsweg towards Pillnitz.
The neo-Gothic Elbe castle is now a hotel with a restaurant. It lies on the Körner loop; the detour from Heilstättenweg is worth it for the view over the Elbe valley alone.
Wine tavern in the old village core of Wachwitz, easy to combine with the Wachwitz loop or the path to the Royal Vineyard.
After a break of about a hundred years, wine is grown on the slope again. The Loschwitz/Wachwitz winegrowers' association was founded in 1987 and tends small plots, among them at Lingner Castle. Dinglinger's vineyard on Schevenstraße has also been replanted. The best chance to taste local wine is the Elbhangfest on the last weekend in June.
At the other end of the Blaues Wunder bridge, on Schillerplatz, lies the Schillergarten with a large beer garden by the Elbe. It belongs to Blasewitz, but many Loschwitz visitors include it because the walk across the bridge takes only a few minutes.
At Kaffee Wippler, Körnerplatz 2. The building dates from 1894/95 and was formerly known as Kaffee Winkler.
The Luisenhof at Bergbahnstraße 8, opposite the upper station of the funicular. It has long been called Dresden's balcony.
Yes, the Körnergarten at Friedrich-Wieck-Straße 26. On the Blasewitz side there is the Schillergarten.
On the businesses' own websites. This page does not list them because they change often.
