Körnergarten
The inn has existed since 27 May 1877. At first it had no name; later it was called Gasthaus zur Fähre (ferry inn), because a steamer ferry between Loschwitz and Blasewitz docked nearby. The Buchbach family took over in 1997 and now runs it in the second generation. The house has a large beer garden directly on the Elbe and, upstairs, the Elbzimmer with room for 55 people. The kitchen is Saxon and changes with the season.

Elbhang-Kurier, Friebel Werbeagentur und Verlag
The Elbhang-Kurier appears monthly and reports from the villages along the Elbe slope between Blasewitz, Laubegast, Loschwitz, Pillnitz, Weißer Hirsch and Weißig. It was founded in 1992 by Holger Friebel, Jürgen Frohse and Burgi Trommer, and is published by Dieter Fischer, Holger Friebel and Jürgen Frohse. The publishing house is Friebel Werbeagentur und Verlag GmbH. The paper describes itself as independent and non-partisan and mixes local history with culture and current affairs.
What Körnerplatz used to be
The Ortsverein Loschwitz-Wachwitz has documented the shop history of the square, and the list reads like a social history of the district. Around 1893 Franz Möbius ran a colonial goods shop and F. W. Karl Schmidt traded in coffee and colonial goods. In 1932 Anton Graebel took over and ran the grocery until 1958.
Around 1915 there was a milliner named Lehmann, the Pistorius dye works and the Löffler refreshment kiosk. Later came Foto-Gaudernack and, from the 1930s to the late 1950s, Radio-Jäckel. After 1945 Montblanc-Fiedler sold stationery, and from 1945 to 1974 Walter Rost ran the Sport-Rost sports shop. From 1958 there was a state-run self-service store, which gained a dietary department in 1967.
After 1989 the uses changed faster. Schreibwaren Reichert lasted until 1986, Rainer Höhme ran an office supplies shop with copy service from 1987 to 1991, from 1992 to 2002 there was Haar-Pflege, a hairdresser with cosmetics, and in 1999 and 2000 the Café Straßbourg. Anyone looking at the parade of shops today is walking across a square whose ground floors have had the same function for a hundred and thirty years while constantly carrying different names.

What the district lives on economically
Loschwitz never had industry of any significance. The seven mills on the Loschwitzbach were the commercial base from the Middle Ages into the nineteenth century, followed by viticulture, the ferry and tourism. The bridge of 1893 and the two hill railways brought day trippers, who still sustain the restaurants by the water.
Today's business mix is small-scale: owner-run shops, restaurants, trades, practices, plus architecture and planning offices that live off the stock of listed villas. A shop unit on Körnerplatz is sought after and expensive, which explains the short tenure of many businesses in the Ortsverein's chronicle.
Two dates a year change the picture noticeably. The Elbhangfest on the last weekend in June brings tens of thousands of people to the stretch between the Blaues Wunder and Pillnitz. And every longer closure of the hill railways is felt immediately by the restaurants up on the slope.
